Chimney Stork Nest

Kurepesa

The first photo, taken in 1997, shows two storks in a storknest on a chimney near Kiidjärv in Põlvamaa (south-eastern Estonia). In later years, the nest must have shifted slightly due to storms as closer observation shows it is tilting to one side. This might explain why there were no storks in the nest in 2007, although traces of bird droppings around the chimney suggest it has been in use. As I started digitizing my older analog photos in 2007 and 2008 I was happy to rediscover that I still had the photo from 1997 with the storks in the nest.

In 2010 I was alerted by a reader to the fact that there were again storks in the nest and decided to take a look again. Indeed there were storks in the nest (see next two photos), but the nest was still tilted. It doesn't look very stable, maybe these storks like to live dangerously?
